Activity report of 2006

Support for East Timor
Category
Non-formal education
In cooperation with:
Team Aguida (of East Timor)
Background
Hearts of Gold supports the activity of Team Aguida. Team Aguida has made efforts to raise awareness of joy of sports among young people in the very difficult situations, politically and financially since the Independence of the country in 2002.

*Ms Aguida Amaral is one of the first East Timor Olympic athletes who participated in the Sydney Olympics as a marathon runner. Team Aguida is a sporting club established to give nearly 100 children dreams and hope through sports. It also aims to help their own country, East Timor revive and prosper. The children of Team Aguida
work very hard to be Olympic athletes in the future. But the young athletes don't have proper training shoes. They don't have simple athletic equipment like stop watches or starting blocks.

Activity outline
  1. Raising funds for a sporting scholarship of Team Aguida
  2. Making and giving T-shirts of Team Aguida for the children using collected funds

Problem
  1. Some members of Team Aguida are from Indonesia and some are from East Timor.
They have difficulties to keep the activities depend on the situation in tension.

  2. Deteriorating security in East Timor discontinued activities of Japanese high school students. Hearts of Gold started teaching 'hygiene and improvement of their life' to about 1000 East Timorese people accepting assistance from International Volunteer Banking of Japan Postal Service Cooperation since 2005. Japanese high school students worked on the project as a leader.
Next execution plan
  1. Continuing assistance for activities of Team Aguida
  2. Restarting to teach how to improve their life as soon as Hearts of Gold gets enough funds to act.
