Japanese education <Hearts of Gold Mutsumi Japanese Course>
Category
Human resources development
In cooperation with:
1) Chei Primary School, 2) cooperative elementary schools, junior high schools, 3) Gakugeikan High School and others
Background
Hearts of Gold (HG) has been working on "Angkor Wat International Half Marathon" since its start with National Olympic Committee, Khmer Amateur Atheletic Federation and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in Cambodia. And HG has got many requests for Japanese language education from local people. As farmers who account for 80 percents of the population of Cambodia are extremely poor, many of them had to give up their children. Even when children grow up, it's very hard for them to find the jobs. If they could speak Japanese, they could have more opportunities to work at hotels, restaurants, and as tour guides. That is the main reason for the request of Japanese education.
Outline of activities
Japanese class
Ms. Mutumi Hinokio, a visiting teacher, has been teaching Japanese in Siem Reap, Cambodia since September, 2000. After finishing activities at the orphanage and investigation in the field, she started teaching Japanese for free in order to help their self-support in Chei Primary School which is located in one of the poorest area of Siem Reap.

Exchange with Japanese schools
Classrooms are decorated with thoughtful supporting supplies (handmade materials for teaching Japanese, games, writing material, songs, soap, towels, bags and calendars, and dust cloths) sent by schools in Japan. This international exchange activity encourages children to understand different cultures and countries, and cultivates friendship among them.

Visitors and supporting supplies from Japan
Tourists of study tours and visitors of cooperative organizations are accepted through Hearts of Gold as needed. We have received donations in kind such as stationary and teaching materials from Japanese education organizations and charitable foundation.
