Heart Parent system/Construction of new child care center (NCCC)

Activity outline

Background: Children have been accommodated in five different places in Battambang Center, Siem Reap Center, temples (in Battambang & Takeo), Battambang Office. To defuse the dispersed situation of management, the building project of NCCC in Siem Reap began from 2005.
Dispatched Mr. Yuichiro Osumi and Ms. Yukari Yumino were dispatched to be in charge of this project in January 2006.
Activity:
From end of July Recruiting of construction committee members
Early August Establishment of Construction Committee (temporary named) and decision of performing construction
Early September Obtaining land for the NCCC
Establishment of construction project team consisting of architect and its trainee)
Start of first construction
From November Farm land consolidation (excavation of pond, embankment, land stabilization)
Digging of well, water tower, piping
January Preparation period to begin construction, application for various official permissions
Procurement of material and current unit price research

Shoring construction of boys' dormitory
  • Staffs of NCCCThe facility in Battambang was removed and reconstructed because of soaring price of lumbers and logging regulation, which made it difficult to buy lumbers freely.  Equipment and materials were procured locally or from Thailand to reduce transportation cost.


Planned next constructions
  • Application for official permissions on the new construction of a health administration building for boys and girls, etc., landfill of the construction site, land improvement and procurement of materials after completion of boys' dormitory.
  • To set up a sewage treatment facility for securing organic fertilizers. The fertilizers will be used in subsistence activities such as farming, pig and poultry farming in the wide land obtained for the NCCC.
  • To make a chance to be as job trainee for children who are interested in the NCCC construction. (3 applicants in 2007)
  • To accept volunteer tour from Japan to show the present condition of the child care center and increase supporters for the center continuously.
Problems
Fund raising: It is most important to secure fund to build girls' dormitory and administration wing, job training center and to improve farm.
