Hearts of Gold Youth Ambassador (HG CYA-JYA)

Activity outline

Background: Although the main activity of HG CYA-JYA was an event activity in its creation term in 2003, it changed into a program activity that was planned, performed and organized mainly by them after many experiences. In 2007, the project proposed by HG CYA-JYA was tried in Cambodia.

Activities: Both Workshop and fieldwork were held in this year. Workshop was performed with a view to enhancing cooperativity through manufacturing (Mono zukuri) and fieldwork was conducted as a tool of deepening understand of Cambodian mind habitude.
Moreover the lectures shown below were held before or after these tours in order to deepen understanding of modern Cambodia.

  • "Tonre Sap Lake – devastating of ecosystem and fisherie issue" by Kiyoshi Matsumoto (Leucaena Communication Japonesia)
  • "The world of Cambodian Silken Fabric" by Kikuo Morimoto(Institute for Khmer Traditional Textiles, Traditional Forest)

"Let's think of association between natural environment and our life"(Siem Reap, Cambodia)
Term: From 20th to 27th February 2008 (10 members of HG JYA participated)

Workshop: Workshop that is to make planters and drawstring bags with children was held in NCCC. In Suzume no Gakko and Chei Primary School, health education was conducted. In addition to this, plays and games of both of Japan and Cambodia were introduced each other.
Field work: Field work and interview survey were held with a corporation of Leucaena in Tonre Sap Lake area.

"Lacrosse makes friends in Cambodia"(Phom Penh, Cambodia)
Term: From 29th February to 9th March 2008 (14 members from HG JYA and 16 from HG CYA attended)
Workshop: Lacrosse crosses and goals were made. From its material searching to its completion, "the tools that can be made only in Cambodia" was in mind. Utilizing those tools, we leant how to play Lacrosse, practiced it and played games. The games were held at Boung Trabek High School and Arikhsath Junior High School with inviting other two schools joining the tournament. Arikhasath Junior High School took first place at the tournament on the memorable 1st Lacrosse tournament in Cambodia.
Field work: Thanks to the corporation of JLMM, field work was held at the garbage collection location in Steng Meanchey. Inspection of markets, schools, temples, factories and agricultural field as well as interview of local people at their home were also done. In addition to this, the party with inviting young NGO staffs is took place in order to deepen exchanges.
Next execution plan
Although fund and obtainment of participants from Japan are the major challenge, we strongly hope to continue this activity in 2008
