Activity outline
Hearts of Gold (HG) takes charge of communicating with foster parents in Japan (Hearts Parents). Here are activity reports of Child Care Center (CCC) where children live.

Domicile: Same as the previous year, we have continued the management under condition of the dispersed facilities where the children are accepted, such as Battambang Center, Siem Reap Center, temples (in Battambang and Takeo), and Battambang Office. We could support and educate children without any serious troubles.
Self-support: Self-support: Four children who got married or returned to their homes became independent and left this project. Despite this, the expenditure exceeded the budget. Although we have made efforts to reduce the number of staff and the cost of daily lives, still we couldn't escape from the condition of lack of funds.
Living: We have given life-education to them in consideration for morals, courtesy, health care, maintenance of healthy environment (cleaning/keeping everything in order), agriculture, traditional dance and Japanese education. As a whole, they went well, but at their adolescence, some problems such as being ill, failure in examination for high school graduation, delinquent behaviors and truancy, came up.

Working at Moloppor Cafe encourages and develops their positive attitude about job and enriches their social experience. With wages, they can get some economic strength and prospect of their future.
Agricultural exercises (Battambang Center):
  • Rice farming (2 ha): Crop: 4,456kg.(Profit: 13,480 Bahts (about \44,500))
  • Vegetable cultivation: Eggplants and red peppers. Poor growth due to much rain. Most of them were used for foodstuff for the CCC. (10kg eggplants sold: 5,000 Riel)
  • Chicken farming: Each child took care of chickens responsibly. (24 chickens sold, profit: about \1,600)
  • Pig farming: 2 pigs kept, got sick. No profit.
Siem Reap Cener:
  • Vegetable cultivation: Sponge cucumbers, basil, eggplants, red peppers, lemon grass, morning glory, cabbages, Chinese chive, squash, Chinese vegetable
  • Pig farming: 4 pigs kept. (Loss due to pig disease: 968,000 Riel = about \28,800)
Issues
  • Students with enough academic ability, enthusiasm and positive attitude to graduate from high school are allowed to enter high school. To help these students concentrate on and pass the graduation examination during the test.
  • We would like to introduce orientation for finishing the vocational training and thorough confirmation of children's hopes and intentions. We also would like to introduce measures to increase ranges and alternatives in choosing their jobs. To emply a staff for the above all is required swiftly.
  • Improvement of manufacturing and selling goods: As a way to earn money, the quality of manufacturing and selling souvenirs to tourists should be improved. (Cookies, coffee, and pepper)
  • Enhancement of growing vegetables.(self-sufficient, selling at the market)
  • As a vocational training (building, civil engineering and plumbing), applicants and the suitable persons in the center join the construction of New Child Care Center.
  • As a certain number of students leave the Heart Parent Project, it is time to accept new children.
  • Securing the opportunities to learn arts and foreign language education toward independence.

[Building condition of New Child Care Center (NCCC)]
At present, at Moloppor Cafe run by Leucaena a few girls are learning how to treat customers with working part time job there. And three Heart-Child boys has been joining the work of building dormitory for boys in NCCC as trainees since May.

They are learning the basic knowledge of measuring, plumbing, building and reclaiming with actually building their own house as one of the vocational trainings.

In Cambodia where people can not make their living in agriculture, Leucaena is supporting their self-sufficient. They are learning hard every day from Japanese expert Mr. Osumi with other staffs having the instruction by Ms. Yumino.
