In cooperation with:
National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), Khmer Amateur Athletic Federation (Khmer AAF)
Background
Runner's Aid, a fund-raising activity triggers the establishment of Angkor Wat International Half Marathon. The Runner's Aid is one of the charitable activities started in 1994 that calls for runners to attend people's marathons in various areas in Japan. This activity aims to make prosthetic limbs in developing countries with a part of collected entry fee.

Not only the indirect fund-raising marathon in Japan, but a direct charity marathon in Cambodia was conceived. From April 23 to 27, 1996 three staffs from Sankei Sports went to Cambodia to research actual situation and ultimately they succeeded in obtaining the pledge of authorities to "execute the international half marathon as a national event."

Thus the first Angkor Wat International Half Marathon was realized in Dec. 22, 1996. Ever since the beginning, the marathon race has been carried out continuously to this day despite the outbreak of coup.
Activity outline

AWHM is managed by an organization, AWHM Management Steering Committee (herein after called AMC). Hearts of Gold works in Japan and Cambodia supporting AMCC assigning technology to it and supporting its independence.
