Anyone can have gold, simply by giving

It is with great pride that I join Yuko Arimori's Hearts of Gold NGO. I have been honored to have run alongside Yuko Arimori in the Olympic Games. She is truly a fine and dedicated athlete par excellence. But my admiration for Yuko goes far beyond that of one runner for another, for I have witnesses within her a social consciousness and dedication to others that is rare and beautiful. It could not be more appropriate to have Yuko lead this organization for she is a living example of heart of gold.
Together we have traveled to Mongolia where thousands of children are homeless, denied their simple birthright of a warm home and the love and care of parents because of economic reform. In Cambodia we witnessed rows of people lined up at the hospital to be fitted with artificial limbs, people who will never run like her or I, because terrorism has blown their quality of life away.
Our world is in trouble, that is obvious, and we cannot wait for others to fix it. Indeed it is not as much a problem that needs a solution as much as it is a life attitude, or a way of being, that needs to emerge and be expressed by each one of us. It is time to embrace the idea that we are simply Caucasians, Asians, Eurasians, Africans and Indians. We need to recognize that we are Human Beings with a common heritage and a common future, and even, if we cannot find a common ideology it does not matter as long as we can find our common heart. Then we cannot walk away from the homeless Mongol child or the limbless Cambodian, for they are our family.
Anyone can have gold, simply by giving. Please join us. |
