Profile

The people of Cambodia, who have endured uninterrupted civil war for many years, have experienced perhaps the greatest tragedy of any people since the end of the Second World War. Since 1975, it is believed that two million people lost their lives in the great massacres of the Pol Pot regime. At the same time, as a result of repeated wars, Cambodia has been inundated with more landmines than any other country in the world, and more than 40,000 people have lost their limbs. Even now there are 10 million active landmines, which is equal to the population of the country, and every month hundreds are killed or maimed.

In Cambodia, the "Angkor Wat International Half Marathon" set in the ruins of Angkor has been held since 1996 to benefit the victims of antipersonnel mines. The proceeds are used to purchase prostheses for victims, including children, who have lost an arm or a leg.

Since the beginning, I had the opportunity to participate in this event and help this cause. However, I have come to realize that the steady effort and passion of the people are crucial for this event to continue and grow.

Through running, I am grateful for the backing and support of many people. In return, I would like to use the support to contribute to a better society. I have made an effort to take advantage of opportunities to participate in charity races and events in Cambodia, Japan, and other countries. However, my role has been limited to my participation as a single person. To create greater impact, I established the "Hearts of Gold" sports NGO. With this I can contribute to society, internationally and locally, not just as an individual, but through an organization, together with the participation of many others.

The goal of this NGO is to assist victims of disasters, both here and abroad, and to help people in war-torn areas become self-sufficient. At the same time, I would like for my activities to be focused on caring for the spirits of people in distressed situations, especially those of children.

When I was a child, I had no confidence and I searched desperately for something that I, myself, could do; for something on which to focus my efforts. By discovering running and persistence, I gained courage and hope for life.

There are not many things that a person can do for other people. People will exist in whatever circumstances they find themselves. But if an individual does not have the strength within him or herself to go on with life, it is very difficult for that person to feel truly happy. My most important goal is to create opportunities for people and children in distressed circumstances to find courage and hope within themselves.

By creating opportunities for many people to come in contact with running and sports, I wish to promote a "Hearts of Gold" community of hope and courage. I sincerely hope for your participation and support.
